Why Are Peach Flowers All the Rage in Rockford, IL Right Now?
Move over petunias and impatiens! The Rockford Garden Club has a sweet idea to transform our city into a blooming masterpiece involving the trendiest color of the year: peach fuzz!
Rockford Loves All Things Peach
It's no secret that the legacy of the Rockford Peaches is a big deal in the 815, so when the 2024 Color of the Year is chosen as "peach fuzz", it makes total sense to hop on board the trend.
Pantone, "the worldwide standard for color communication and inspiration since 1963", has declared "Peach Fuzz" the official shade of 2024, due to the "warmth and modern elegance" that the color radiates, and now the Rockford Garden Club wants our city to reflect that joyful vibe too.
Here's the plan according to a press release from the Rockford Garden Club:
- Downtown Transformation: The Rockford Garden Club is teaming up with the Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (RAVCB), to plant the "Four Corner" plots downtown with a heavy dose of peachy goodness.
- Peaches Get Peachier: The Garden Club will also add "peach" themed pots outside the Rockford Peaches baseball park
- Nicholas Conservatory Joins the Fun: The hanging baskets outside of Nicholas Conservatory and Gardens are getting a serious peach makeover and you'll likely find peach plants popping up in the outside gardens too.
Where to Get Peach Flowers in Rockford, IL
I spent the majority of this past weekend buying flowers and planting them in my yard. From big box stores, to locally-owned garden centers, I have been to many stores in the last 2 weeks. I may have been on a mission to buy a mix of purple, white, and yellow flowers (Pecatonica colors), but I did notice some pretty peachy flowers that would be just perfect to plant in your yards.
