Outdoor Winter Activities Near Rockford
Near Rockford, some winter outdoor activities to check out.
I try to spend as much time outside as possible during the spring, summer, and fall months. I know when winter comes, I'll want to avoid the weather. I think a lot more folks took advantage of that this year because of COVID.
For many people in the state line area, when the temperatures drop, that means the family fun moves inside. Well, that thought might be a little different in 2020. The normal activities will not be available for everyone. Once again, we will be forced to come up with alternative plans to keep us busy.
Luckily, there are plenty of outdoor activities in the midwest even in the winter. Barring a Polar Vortex, we understand the winter weather and know how to deal with it. Just throw on some warm clothes and the elements aren't that bad.
There are several fun things to do within the city limits of Rockford but, sometimes, we have to do what I call, "Blowing the stink off." I just mean getting out of town for a few hours. Again choices are limited. Indoor activities are not an option, so it's time to think about hanging outside.
If you don't have any ideas, don't worry I have some to share with you. Check out this list of things to do, not too far from Rockford.
According to timeout.com,
- Ice Skating - Maggie Daley Park in Chicago. It's not your normal rink, this is more of a path that skaters follow around.
- Zipline Ride - The Forge at Lemont Quarries Adventure Park. A fun way to pretend you're a snowflake flying through the air.
- Visit The Animals At The Zoo - Lincoln Park Zoo. Fewer crowds and a whole different way to enjoy the animals.
- Explore A Winter Garden - Chicago Botanical Garden. Of course, there are no flowers but the scenery is still really pretty.
- See The Bean - Millenium Park In Chicago. Another great place to see in the summer but get a different perspective in the cold months.
- Check Out Some Works Of Art - There are so many beautiful sculptures throughout Chicagoland, and to see them in the winter would give them a completely different feel.
- Take A Winter Hike - Fresh air, the great outdoors, and your family. That sounds like a winning combination.
I hope that gives you some ideas to stay busy during the wintertime in our area.
