Since the beginning of December, work crews have been channeling their inner Elsas creating frozen works of art on the grounds of Geneva National Resort & Club in Lake Geneva. Their hope was to open their stunning Ice Castles to the public this weekend, but Mother Nature just messed up all our fun.

Maybe "messed up" is too harsh of a thing to say. I should probably say "postponed" our fun instead.

I have been keeping my eye on the Ice Castles Wisconsin website for weeks now trying to find out when the official opening date is, and it's said "Coming Winter 2019-2020" for a while now. I heard rumors that opening weekend would be this weekend, (January 10,11 and 12), but I can tell you for sure that's not happening.

According to the Lake Geneva Regional News;

Officials at the company Ice Castles LLC project late January for the opening of this year’s castle under construction at Geneva National Resort in the town of Geneva.

Company spokeswoman Melissa Smuzynski said a recent spate of unseasonably warm weather halted construction and caused some of the castle to melt.

“It caused us to lose much of the ice we had already accumulated,” Smuzynski said.

If there's one thing that's good about the wintry mess expected to hit our area this weekend, it's that it might bring enough ice and cold temps for crews to finish their ice castle masterpieces. (fingers crossed)
