I have been driving by this place for as long as I can remember, and I've never been able to figure it out.

There were so many colors and it was boarded up and I just had so many questions.

Matter of fact, almost four years ago to the day,  I asked after hearing about the place on Rockford Reminisce wondering what exactly is going on there? There was a wide range of answers:

The responses ranged from 'service station' to 'eyesore' and 'the owners had diplomatic immunity and no one could force them to care for the building or stop them from doing illegal business there because of their immunity!'

That last one was strange but I was as here for it then as I am today.

So just yesterday while waiting for the light on North Second Street, I noticed that the strangely painted building I could never quite figure out is gone.

Instead, a pile of rubble with an excavator in its place. Doing my best to research why it had been torn down, I came up with nothing.

When I asked the original question four years ago, I never got the full answer. Now that the building is gone, a whole bunch of new questions has risen in its place.

Was the place in such a state of disrepair that it needed to be demolished? Were the owners of the building taking it down and putting something else up? If so what? If it was the city tearing the place down, why, and what's going to happen with the land now?

Like I said, so many questions.
