It is the season of giving. Thanks to Northern Illinois University Communications Director David Henningsen, a lot of families will have a holly jolly Christmas. He has been helping teens for more than five years by donating gifts to the Lutheran Child and Family Services of Illinois. Here's what he did this year.

This year, along with the help of his students, NIU Communications Director David Henningsen is delivering more than 500 gifts including cosmetics, footballs, and board games to teens in the foster care system. They are often overlooked during the holidays, but not this year thanks to NIU.

According to WIFR TV-23, David Henningsen states, “What I decided to do was work with my students and try to come up with an engaged learning project where we could try to meet that need, where we could try to find gifts for kids in the foster care system who are older that may not be getting age-appropriate gifts otherwise.”

It all starts with someone stepping forward to do some good, and thanks to NIU, even more families and individuals will have a Merry Christmas.
