A Unique Ice Cream Shop Will Soon Add Some Sweetness to Downtown Rockford, Illinois

A Sweet New Addition to Rockford

It's no secret that Rockford area residents have an obsession with locally-owned ice cream shops. We all count down the days until our favorite ice cream joints open for the summer season, but many of us are also frequent flyers at year-round ice cream shops too.

My family's favorite year-round ice cream shops are Cattle & Cream in Cherry Valley, IL...

And 3rd Street Station in Pecatonica, IL...

Both of these local shops have certain things that make them unique, BUT the one thing they have in common is that they both serve Cedar Crest Ice Cream.

I kid you not if we stop somewhere that has a Cedar Crest Ice Cream sign hanging inside it, my kids are like moths to a flame because they know that this sign means "the good ice cream" is served there.

There's no doubt that my kids will be ecstatic when I tell them a new ice cream shop is coming to Rockford, AND that it will serve Cedar Crest Ice Cream too!

Minni's Ice Cream Parlor Will Open Soon in Downtown Rockford

The Rockford Register Star reports that the family behind Minnihan's bar at 211 Elm St., across from the BMO Center in Downtown Rockford, will be expanding their business by opening a year-round ice cream parlor in the same building.

Minni's Ice Cream Parlor will offer 28 flavors of hand-scooped goodness as well as chocolate and vanilla soft serve and even pizza by the slice.

Cedar Crest Ice Cream and soft serve won't be the only treats Minni's has in store for Rockfordians. The parlor will also feature 80s and 90s-style pinball machines and an air hockey table to play while you wait for your sweet treats or spend some quality family time in Downtown Rockford.

The Minnihan family is busy preparing the space for the new ice cream parlor, but the RRStar says they hope to have it open for business before summer is over. YUM!
