It's official, Illinois politicians have voted in favor of legalizing recreational use of marijuana. What's next?

First, Governor Pritzker has to sign the legislation and, according to WREX, he will. Once signed, the recreational use of marijuana will take effect on January 1, 2020.

Here are the official "rules",

The measure would allow residents 21 and older to buy marijuana from licensed dispensaries. Possession of up to once ounce (30 grams) would be allowed for residents. Non-residents could possess 15 grams.

What about people that have been charged for possession of marijuana? WREX explained that, too.

Those convicted in the past of possession of 30 grams or less could have their records expunged.

Illinois will have a mass cloud of the state on New Years Day for sure. Learn more about the legislation here.
