Rockford has come along way in the past few years. From re-vamping the downtown area to adding murals and trying to fix up the city in certain areas, things are definitely looking better around here. The river area really looks good near downtown but there are some other areas around the river that need some work. According to WREX.com, a few more changes are coming to the Machesney park area near the river.

ComEd and Openlands have given Machesney Park a $5,000 grant. The money will go towards a plan for improvements along the river's edge. Machesney park has taken over 100 properties but they are wanting more. I really don't know how much $5,000 is really going to do but at least they're heading in the right direction. Receiving free money is always nice.
