Legendary Weatherman Passes Away

Legendary and longtime Chicago weatherman Harry Volkman, passed away yesterday at the age of 89 according to WLS-ABCTV in Chicago. What was Harry Volkman's contribution to weather that is still in existence today? 

Weatherman Harry Volkman worked in the Chicago area for more than 50 years, being a weatherman at several local TV stations.

His long lasting contribution to weather forecasting?  He was the first weatherman to issue a tornado alert in 1952.

I remember watching Harry Volkman when I was in school and living in the Chicagoland area. He also seemed pleasant, cheerful, and well educated. He talked to numerous schools and I had the chance to meet him once in my school.
