Las Vegas Concert Shooting Victims’ Families Will Each Receive $275K Payout
The Las Vegas Victims Fund, a $31.5 million total fund that started as a GoFundMe effort, has announced plans to pay $275,000 to the families of each of the 58 people killed at the Route 91 Harvest Festival — the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
The Las Vegas Victims Fund said the maximum $275,000 also will be paid to 10 other people who were paralyzed or suffered permanent brain damage as a result of the Oct. 1 shooting. A chart was posted, explaining the levels of disbursements based on injury.
Disbursements were determined by a committee of victim advocates, mental health and medical professionals, lawyers, donors and others. The committee also held two town hall meetings to hear from victims and their families.
The fund comprises 90,000 donors—locally, nationally and internationally—that contributed the remarkable total sum. Of the total amount contributed, almost 40 percent came from the Southern Nevada gaming, tourism and entertainment industry. Contributions from individuals ranged from $1 to almost $400,000.
The fund's webpage made note of special cases of generosity, including an outreach from the students, faculty and staff of Green Valley High School in Henderson, Nev., which raised more than $66,000 through T-shirt sales.
