Hitting the road this Labor Day Weekend? There's good news to share thank to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

 

Drivers who will be hitting the roads for Labor Day weekend will find no construction on Illinois roads and cheaper gas prices according to ABC-7 Chicago.

The Illinois Department of Transportation said that construction will be halted on IDOT roadways beginning 3 p.m. Friday through Tuesday morning.

Gasbuddy.com predicts that gas prices over the four-day Labor Day holiday will be the cheapest Labor Day prices in a decade. The nationwide average is $2.44 a gallon, which is 99 cents lower than a year ago.

The Illinois Tollway is expecting 7.4 million vehicles - a nearly 3 percent increase from last year -- on the tollway system this holiday weekend.
