Double-Decker Bus Tours Are A Unique Experience In Illinois

The double-decker bus tour is a cool way to experience Chicago because if you sit on the second level there is a great view. You can see over all the other cars on the road and of course, there's always tons of traffic in the city. At the same time, the Windy City is filled with bridges, viaducts, and overpasses. Larger vehicles have to be very careful because they are too tall to go under some of those structures.

Double-Decker Tour Bus Accident In Chicago

Recently, during an afternoon tour on one of those double-decker buses in Chicago, there was an accident. The driver didn't realize the bus was too tall to go under a viaduct around the Lower Randolph and DuSable Lake Shore Drive area. As the vehicle went under the structure it hit a support beam and the whole roof was torn off.

There were 31 passengers on the bus and luckily no one was seriously injured. One person went to the hospital because of cuts to their head. So far, the police haven't given the driver a ticket. A couple of riders are suing the tour company.

The top of the bus was completely sheared off.
