Illinois Driver Carjacked While Pumping Gas Into Vehicle

Carjacking Has Become Way To Common In Illinois

Just a few years ago, carjackings weren't all that common in Illinois except in some of the bad parts of Chicago. Nowadays, they seem to happen all the time. That includes nice areas and even places you wouldn't expect.

The Latest Carjacking In Illinois

The most recent occurrence of a carjacking in Illinois happened earlier this week in Elmhurst, which by the way, is a very nice suburb of Chicago. The incident happened just before lunchtime at the Shell gas station located on Butterfield Road.

The victim was out on their lunch break when they decided to fill the vehicle up with fuel at the local Shell gas station before heading back to work. It seemed like a great idea at the time so they didn't have to worry about it later.

The vehicle owner did what just about everyone else in Illinois would do. They pulled into the gas station and parked their Infiniti SUV at the pump. Then the driver got out of the car and started filling it up. Of course, leaving it unlocked with the keys inside. I'll admit it, I've done that many times in my life.

The carjacker went around to the opposite side of the vehicle. The thief then snuck into the vehicle and stole it. That car was still pumping gas. The owner standing there in shock. The nozzle was still inside the SUV. Luckily, it was found abandoned a few hours later.

According to patch.com, 

A car was stolen while a person was pumping gas Monday at an Elmhurst gas station, authorities said.

 

Police said a suspect entered an unlocked blue Infiniti SUV and drove away while the person was pumping gas, with the pump nozzle still attached.
