This is your warning that road construction season is starting back up in Illinois and your trip into Chicago is about to get much worse.

I've spent my life living in Illinois. There's one thing that has remained constant in our state is that the traffic sucks, especially in and around Chicago. It seems like there's always construction on the roads. It takes forever to get anywhere.

Chicago Highway Construction Starts For Season

If you're heading from Rockford into Chicago for a concert, game, or other event, you really need to plan out in advance. If you leave too late or take the wrong road, that could add hours to your drive time.

It's always been bad getting into the city, but it just keeps getting worse each year. One of the main reasons is that there has been a major construction project on the Kennedy Expressway, which is I-90. It is scheduled to last three years.

The Illinois Department Of Transportation announced that the third and final year of construction is set to kick off on St. Patrick's Day. It's scheduled to last until Thanksgiving but we'll see how that goes.

This year the work will be on the outbound lanes of the Kennedy Expressway. It will include lane closures, road reconfigurations, and much more. Expect long delays. You're best bet is following IDOT on social media or checking out their website. Oh yeah, don't forget to grab a Snickers because you won't be going anywhere for a while.

According to IDOT in Illinois, The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that the rehabilitation of the Kennedy Expressway (Interstate 90/94) from the Edens Expressway (Interstate 94) junction to Ohio Street will resume, weather permitting, Monday, March 17.
