Lenny Downtown Rockford’s Famous Cat Has Passed Away
I am so incredibly sad to hear that Lenny, the famous cat in Downtown Rockford, has passed away.
For years, I loved visiting Lenny every day when I was downtown, passing by The Crow Bar on South Main Street. So many people knew Lenny. They'd stop to give him pets through the glass window where he loved to sunbathe, people-watch, and soak up all the attention.

He was a little downtown celebrity!

I passed by today, and his nose prints were still on the glass.
His "Hello! My name is Lenny" sign was still hanging in the window.
The feeling of staring at the empty window really hit different.

A few times, I even made TikToks about Lenny being the "downtown famous cat," and everyone absolutely loved him.
He was born November 12th, 2012, and passed away on August 12th, 2026, after living a very full and beautiful life.
The bar shared this sweet, sweet message on Facebook.
"Lenny. 11/12/2012-08/12/2026We are sorry to have to inform you that Lenny passed away today. He was the best cat ever and he loved everybody. We know he brought joy to so many people from his perch in the window on South Main Street and he so loved all the attention, gifts received through the mail slot, all your pets and kisses he received. He was a lucky cat, from the day Jeff rescued him from the wild to all the friends he made on South Main. Not every cat goes from being the Display Link shop cat to becoming Rockford famous. We have so enjoyed your photos, videos and crowds gathered around him through the years. We will miss him terribly and know that you will also. Please post any photos and videos in the comments, we would love to see them. Thank you for loving our sweet boy." [The Crow Bar]
Lenny was rescued by Jeff, the owner of The Crow Bar, and went from being the Display Link shop cat to becoming truly Rockford famous.
For Pride Month, I bought him a disco ball to hang in his window. A few days later, there it was, hanging in his window!

I was so happy to see his space decorated for every holiday, too.
The bar shared that Lenny passed away quickly and that he was "the best cat ever" who loved everybody (which he did!). They also asked everyone to share their photos and videos of him. So, to honor him, I'm sharing all my TikToks and photos that I've taken of him over the years!
Rest in peace, Lenny. You were loved by so many, and you will be terribly missed.
