The last time I went to a museum was in middle school for those annual field trips we'd take to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. I would always look forward to the machine that made you a custom engraved coin. Nostalgic!

Ton of museums in Illinois are offering free admission days for residents
If you're an Illinois resident, you can get into these eight different museums for free. Some museums do require proof of residency to gain admission!
The Field Museum - 1400 S Lake Shore Dr, Chicago
Every Wednesday in April, locals get free admission from 9am to 5pm. You can register online for tickets before you arrive.
Chicago History Museum - 1601 N Clark St, Chicago
- April 10th, 18th, and 24th.
- Plus, May 1st, 27th, and 29th. Plan your visit!
Shedd Aquarium - 1200 S DuSable Lake Shore Dr, Chicago
- April 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th. Tix here.
- Plus, May 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th & June 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th
Swedish American Museum - 5211 N Clark St, Chicago
- On the second Tuesday in April from 10am to 4pm, locals get free admission.
- Children under the age of one are free, too! Details for free admission here.
Museum of Science and Industry - 5700 S DuSable Lake Shore Dr, Chicago
- On April 21st, June 6th, and June 19th, receive free admission into the museum.

National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture - 3015 W Division St, Chicago
- Admission is actually ALWAYS FREE here, but donations are always welcome!
DuSable Black History Museum & Education Center - 740 E 56th Pl, Chicago
- On Wednesdays, Illinois residents, military, & first responders get free admission.
- You can add up to 8 tickets per reservation!
National Museum of Mexican Art - 1852 W 19th St, Chicago
- Right when you get to their website, it says "ALWAYS FREE" at the top. So, if you didn't know this museum was always free, you do now!
It might not be warm enough to adventure outside just yet, but there are always plenty of indoor activities to do in the meantime.
