This hidden gem in the heart of Chicago, Illinois is seriously one of the most underrated attractions you'll ever find in America.

For Christmas, my boyfriend surprised me with tickets to a museum in Illinois that I have never heard of.  I thought only the Field Museum, Museum of Science & Industry, and Shedd Aquarium were the most sought out attractions in Chicago.

The Alder Planetarium in Chicago, Illinois

Chicago's Adler Planetarium is very overlooked as a tourist destination, but it's one of America's most underrated attractions - it doesn't even look like a real place!

Located right on the shores of gorgeous Lake Michigan, the Planetarium offers stunning views of the city and the opportunity to explore the universe.

Wait until you're actually there taking in the views of the Chicago skyline before heading into the museum!  I didn't want to leave, it was breathtaking.

The more we explored it, the more we realized it's pretty nostalgic for adults!  We felt like we were on a field trip like in middle school... but it was just the two of us.  What a fun, educational date night!

We went to a sky show called "Imagine the Moon" where you kick back and relax in a movie theater seat and see how the universe works through a visual story time in the sky.

You can purchase an individual or family Star Pass for unlimited entry to the Adler and their sky shows for an entire year. Give the gift of space, it's so worth it!

One of the Adler's most popular exhibits is the Space Visualization Lab, where visitors can see what it's like to fly through the cosmos in a simulated spacecraft.

The lab features high-resolution projections and immersive audio, making it feel like you're really hurtling through space.

But the Adler isn't just about outer space – it also has exhibits on the history of astronomy and the contributions of brilliant scientists.

You can take a journey through 'The Universe: A Walk Through Space and Time.'  It's the best spot for a photo opportunity - look how cool it looks!

In addition to its exhibits, the Adler also hosts a variety of special events and programs, including stargazing parties and lectures by experts in the field.

Whether you're a science fanatic or just looking for a unique experience, the Adler Planetarium is a must-see attraction in Chicago.  You'll truly feel like you're walking around in a spaceship.. or UFO if you wanna get technical.

To top off your exciting visit to the Alder Planetarium, find the photo booth hidden in the museum and get your picture taken with the Solar System!  We did it!
