A Quiet Chicago Suburb Turns Into a Crime Scene

Here's the story: This tale takes place in Glenview, a sleepy northwest suburb of Chicago. I can refer to it as such because I spent a few years living there while finishing up high school.

Anyway, the whole thing is caught on a Ring doorbell camera, showing a couple walking to their front door when, out of nowhere, some dudes come running up to them, guns drawn, demanding that they hand over everything they have. You can hear the guy in the video telling them, "Take everything," as he hands over his phone, wallet, and, surprisingly, his shoes.

They Did Everything Right, And It Still Could’ve Gone So Wrong

The couple stayed calm, didn't fight back, and certainly didn't escalate the situation, which could have gotten far worse. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but you'd have to believe they were very clearly shaken. The couple lost personal items, but not their lives. The suspects took off in what appears to be a previously stolen Jaguar SUV, which was later found abandoned in Chicago.

If You Think This Couldn’t Happen Here, Think Again

Whether you live in Rockford, Belvidere, Loves Park, or Cherry Valley, getting robbed just outside your home should feel unimaginable, but it's a scary reminder to stay alert. Keep your porch lights on, and always be aware of your surroundings. If you haven't invested in a doorbell camera, consider doing so.
