The latest recall of lead-contaminated products now includes baby food pouches sold in Walgreens stores.

What Products Are Impacted in the Recall

Sprout Organics has announced a voluntary recall of one lot of Sprout Organics Sweet Potato Apple and Spinach baby food pouches due to the potential presence of elevated lead levels.

Why Lead Contamination in Baby Food Matters

The recall affects 3.5-ounce pouches sold primarily in Walgreens stores and select independent retailers across the U.S. South region. According to a release from the FDA, most of the affected products were sold between September and December 2024.

How to Identify Recalled Baby Food Pouches

The recalled products carry lot code 4212 and an expiration date of October 29, 2025, printed on the bottom strip on the back of the pouch. No other Sprout Organics products are impacted.

Lead exposure, even at low levels, can be harmful, especially for children. Long-term or repeated exposure can cause serious health problems, including learning difficulties, developmental delays, and other lasting effects. While no illnesses have been reported to date, the company issued the recall after routine product sampling.

There has been no word on whether or not the recall is related to the cinnamon recalls that have taken place over the last 18 months.

What Parents Should Do Next

Consumers who have the affected product are advised to stop using it immediately and return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.

For questions, Sprout Organics can be reached at 510-833-6089 Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Time, or by email at Info@sproutorganics.com.

Sprout Organics Statement on Safety

Sprout Organics emphasized that safety remains its top priority and that this recall is limited to a single lot of its baby food products.
