New Study Names Illinois’ Top Ten Safest Cities
You may have read recently that violent crime in Illinois and the rest of the nation is on a downward trend. That's a really good thing of course, but that doesn't mean that we'll all stop worrying about our personal safety and that of our families anytime soon.
It’s totally natural to worry about safety, whether you’re raising a family, building a life, or simply looking for peace of mind. The good news is that there are still many communities where low crime rates and strong community bonds help make residents feel secure.
A recent study from Safewise highlights the 10 safest cities in Illinois in 2026, giving us some bright spots to focus on.
According to the Safewise analysis, which examines violent and property crime data from the FBI, the safest city in Illinois, and a place where life feels calm and secure, is Campton Hills. This village has topped the state’s safety list again, reporting exceptionally low crime rates year after year.
The Common Thread Among These Illinois Communities Is Very Low Violent Crime And Property Crime Compared To The National Average
Here are the ten Illinois cities and towns that Safewise picked as our safest:
Campton Hills
Hawthorn Woods
Pingree Grove
Lindenhurst
Western Springs
Manhattan
Sandwich
Gilberts
Homer Glen
La Salle
What’s notable about this list is that some Illinois cities don’t just rank well locally, they also appear on national safest-city lists. For example, WalletHub’s Safest Cities in America rankings put Aurora in the top tier nationally among large cities, due to their strong showings in home and community safety.
