Because of the microbial contamination, the FDA says "the use of the affected product could potentially result in severe or life-threatening adverse events such as fungemia or disseminated fungal infection".

The good news is the FDA says as of the date of this article there have been no reports of serious or fatal infections connected to this cough medicine. The bad news is it's been available across the entire state of Missouri. If you have had issues with this cough medicine, you can contact the FDA to find out what steps you need to take.

Note that this contamination would likely not lead to serious issues for healthy individuals, but if you have a compromised immune system, it could lead to very bad complications.
