You will sometimes see a meteor burn up in the atmosphere over Illinois and Iowa, but you'll rarely see them during the daytime which is exactly what happened early Friday morning.

The American Meteor Society documented this widely-seen meteor or meteors that appeared at approximately 6:13am Friday morning over Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Many who witnessed them shared pictures of what they saw.

What was likely seen over Illinois, Iowa and many other states was one meteor that disintegrated into multiple pieces as it burned up in the atmosphere. As of the date of this writing, there were 74 reports and counting on the American Meteor Society website.
