It's going to get hot late this week in both Missouri and Illinois. The only question at this point is exactly how hot. Near triple-digit temperatures are expected along with storms possible both Thursday and Friday this week.

The National Weather Service in St. Louis shared a concerning graphic on Twitter explaining of the incoming heat for this region beginning Thursday, June 29, 2023.

The National Weather Service "story" today is also telling involving how hot it might get near the end of the week.

The National Weather Service forecast for Hannibal, Missouri in particular shows that as of this writing, the high is expected to reach 97 with the heat index almost certainly in triple digits.

Heat is a major killer and with the heat index expected to spike later this week, precautions should be taken as heat indexes between 105 and 130 can cause heat strokes, cramps and exhaustion along with dehydration.

There is the chance that cloud cover and/or developing storms could provide some relief late this week, but that remains to be seen. As of now, plan for dangerous heat in both Missouri and Illinois and hope we get a break.
