According to an article from NBC Chicago, The RoomPlace, a popular furniture store, is closing stores across Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin as the store files for bankruptcy. In the article, they say...

"In a news release late Friday night, the more than 100-year-old company announced a restructuring plan that includes shuttering stores in Peoria, Illinois, Kenosha, Wisconsin and six in central Indiana. The company said the restructuring, which will utilize protections of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. The move, CEO Bruce Berman said, will allow The RoomPlace to refocus on strengthening its 18 Chicago-area stores, which will remain open under regular hours."

The company, which is headquartered in Chicagoland, is only closing one store in the Land of Lincoln, and that is the store in Peoria, to read more about this story, click here!

The end of an era...

What furniture stores are thriving right now? I grew up in the suburbs, and The RoomPlace was the destination to go for everything you needed furniture-wise for your home. It begs the question if they are struggling, who is thriving? Maybe this signals the end of an era for furniture stores, maybe people will just be comfortable buying furniture online. I would never be able to buy furniture online without sitting in it, touching it, and feeling it first, that seems like something only really wealthy people do because they don't have time to go to the furniture store and have the money to buy new things if they don't like them.

Regardless, I am glad to hear The RoomPlace isn't going away for good, they are just trying to downsize and focus on their Chicagoland stores.
