
Did IRONMAN 70.3 Success Finally Put Rockford on the Athletic Map?
Now that the first IRONMAN 70.3 Rockford, Illinois is over, we need to take a moment to reflect on the amazing impact this competition had on our fair city.
A Huge Win For Rockford
Full disclosure, I am not a runner, nor an athlete, so until the announcement was made that IRONMAN was coming to Rockford, I had no clue how intense and popular this competitive race is.
The IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon consists of a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride, and a 13.1-mile run, so it spans a big area and requires a large team of volunteers to pull off the event off.
Over 2,700 athletes, along with families and friends traveled to Rockford, Illinois for the IRONMAN competition last weekend, and the city was ready to welcome them with open and excited arms.
Quite honestly, I have never been more proud to say I'm from Rockford, Illinois.

While I still sit here in awe of the grit and endurance these IRONMAN athletes demonstrated in grueling heat, I must also share the Rockford's passion and hospitality did not go unnoticed.
