For the foreseeable future, Illinois residents are required to wear face masks inside public places, like stores, gas stations, medical facilities, etc. With that said, be mindful of where you're storing your mask in your car. There's one particular spot that is illegal, your vehicle's rearview mirror. This is 100% factual. Although it may seem convenient, except for the whole having to stretch it over the mirror, it's actually against the law to hang anything from a vehicle's rearview mirror.

In 2019 a woman asked legal website Avvo.com about hanging an air freshen from a rearview mirror after her husband was pulled over for that very reason. Their response was exactly the point of this article. The answer, yes it's illegal. And, in the end, her husband was given a warning for obstruction of view. Here's how it is stated by the Illinois General Assembly,

(c) No person shall drive a motor vehicle with any objects placed or suspended between the driver and the front windshield, rear window, side wings or side windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver which materially obstructs the driver's view.

So yes, it is actually illegal. A second offense could result in a fine of $50 to $500.

As far as wearing a mask while you're driving, one health expert says to do so if you're sick and there's another person in the vehicle. But, there is such a thing as wearing a face mask for too long. A single-car accident in New Jersey is being blamed on someone passing out after wearing the N95 mask for too long.
