When we began our mission of honoring Hometown Heroes, we wanted to highlight amazing people that live and work in our community. We wanted to show that there is so much good out there in the midst of the bad, and we wanted to share inspiring stories that will make us all want to do better, be better.

When I read the nomination letter sent to us by Chris Sharp of Machesney Park about his wife Holly, I knew immediately this is the kind of mindset so many more people need in our world, and should strive to attain.

Here is what Chris had to say about his amazing wife Holly;

Not only is Holly a hometown hero, but she’s the hero of our home as well. She works endless hours at 3 jobs within OSF not because she needs the money, but because she loves to help people. I wake up every day proud to call her my wife. She goes above and beyond to help out both her patients and her coworkers to make sure the shift can go as smoothly as possible making any sacrifices she needs to make sure that happens.  Even if that means she is working 18 hours that day (which is very common for her). But what I admire most about my wife is her outlook. She says it’s not about how many hours she works or how tired she is when she gets home, it’s about how many patients she can make smile or laugh that day and that’s what makes everything worth it. Her heart, her mindset, and her passion for helping others are what make her who she is.

Holly, to show our appreciation for your endless dedication to others and your ability to make so many people's days better, we would like to give you a $100 Amazon gift card thanks to our friends at Gustafson's Furniture & Mattressand name you this week's Hometown Hero. Thank you for demonstrating what selfless dedication and respect are all about. Please buy something that makes YOU smile today.

If you have an inspirational Hometown Hero story to tell us about, please do so now, here.
