When I told everyone I was moving back home to Illinois, I heard the same thing over and over again.... The Land Of Taxes! I used to joke and say I think they tax me every time I mention the name so I can't afford to tell you where I'm moving twice.

My parents had even given me the 4-1-1 on a little trick.... drive to Wisconsin to get your gas because you'll save at the pump. They weren't kidding!

The numbers have come out for how much in taxes they gained at the pump in the first month compared to last year. Take a deep breath.... 100 MILLION! Illinois made 100 million dollars more in taxes off gas this July compared to last year, according to the Journal Courier. With nearly 20 million less gallons sold.

Now, the money is supposed to be going to the Rebuild Illinois program, but ask anyone over the age of 40 and they will tell you about all the other promised tax hikes and what they were SUPPOSED to go to.

Have you found yourself filling up out of state or using apps like GasBuddy to help you find the cheapest prices? Let me know in the comments!

"I was watching that movie Mad Max, you know that movie where gas is so precious that people are killing each other for a few gallons. It was set in the future — I believe it was August." — Jay Leno
