Another round of dangerous thunderstorms is moving across Nebraska and toward the upper Midwest and could start producing severe weather in Iowa early Friday morning (5/24).

According to the latest forecast from the Weather Channel, thunderstorms will develop in Rockford later in the day on Friday, some could be severe.

The National Weather Service has the Rockford region in the 2 out of 5 "slight risk" range with wind gusts up to 70 mph, and large hail being the primary threat, with a lower threat of tornadoes on Friday.

Saturday's weather throughout northern Illinois should be nearly perfect with mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s, and in Chicago, temps will be milder and hover around 70 degrees.

There's a better than 90 percent chance of thunderstorms on Sunday when the high is forecast to be in the lower 70s. We're in the 'slight risk' category for severe weather, mainly in areas along and south of Highway 30.

Rockford Memorial Day Weather is Perfect for a Parade

Once we get through Sunday (5/26), we should have a decent break from the severe weather and tornado threat in the Rockford region that will last through next Thursday (5/30).

The current Weather Channel forecast for Rockford has temperatures in the lower to middle 70s and about a 20 percent chance of rain on Memorial Day Monday with partly cloudy skies, so you may want to take an umbrella along for the parades in Rockford.

The Rockford Memorial Day Parade will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 27 at 7th Street, and travel to Beattie Park where a special Memorial Day Program will take place immediately following the parade

Sunny skies and near-perfect temps in the lower 70s are expected through Wednesday, then we'll creep back up into the upper 70s, and then about a 40 percent chance of rain on the last day of March 2024.
