Ford Issues Major Recall Over Software Glitch Affecting Thousands of Illinois Drivers
If you drive a Ford vehicle, the company has issued a recall alert you can't afford to ignore.
Rearview Camera Malfunctions
Do you drive a car equipped with a rearview camera? My van has one, and I don't think I would survive life behind the wheel without one.
Ok, maybe saying "I wouldn't survive" is a tad dramatic, but I truly believe having a rearview camera has made me a more confident driver. Actually, it has made me a more confident reverser, if that is even a word?
I used to be a nervous reverser, especially backing out in busy store parking lots when it's hard to see other vehicles and shoppers, but now I have a rearview camera that beeps at me when another vehicle or person is in my path.
Before I drove a car with a rearview camera I would never have felt confident enough to back into a parking spot or my garage, but now I rock it daily thanks to that miraculous piece of vehicle technology.
But, what if that rearview camera had a glitch and wasn't showing all the obstacles in my rearview? That’s a dangerous problem over a million Ford drivers may be facing.
Ford Recalls Over 1 Million Vehicles Due to Rearview Camera Glitch
According to USA Today, The Ford Motor Company has recalled over one million vehicles over a software glitch that "may cause the rearview camera image to delay, freeze, or not display when the vehicle is in reverse."
This software issue is not only annoying for Ford drivers, but it's dangerous for other cars on the roads too, so it needs to be dealt with ASAP.
Some of the recalled Ford vehicles include:
- 2021-2024 F-150
- 2023-2024 F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, and F-600
- 2021-2024 Edge
- 2022-2024 Expedition
- 2023-2024 Escape
What To Do With Your Recalled Ford Vehicle
The Ford Motor Company will begin mailing notices to recalled vehicle owners on June 16, 2025, but you can see the full list of recalled models here.
Ford dealers throughout Illinois will be able to update the vehicle software for free, and an update that wouldn't require taking your recalled vehicle to a dealer may be available soon. Keep checking your mailbox!
