Experts say that totality will cross the Missouri state line diagonally into Illinois around 1:58 p.m. on April 8, and then exit Illinois by Mount Carmel at around 2:06 p.m.
Illinois Schools Closing For the Total Eclipse
Many schools throughout states in the path of totality are cancelling school on April 8, primarily because of the time of day when totality will take place. Many schools will be releasing for the day during totality time and people are concerned for the safety of students.
Are they worried that students will state directly at the eclipse and harm their eyes? Yes, but they are also worried about traffic conditions and getting students home from school safely.
