Driving at night is a challenge for some and downright impossible for others. We all know someone who can never drive at night because they can't see. Speaking of which, never force someone to drive if they say they can't see at night, that has "bad idea" written all over it.

Soon in Illinois, it may become a little easier when it comes to vehicles approaching from the front or rear, all thanks to technology.

Did you know?

Do you know what that little switch is on the bottom of your rearview mirror? It gets a lot of action in my car I'll tell you that much.

How It Works

After your rearview mirror is set in your preferred sweet spot, if you're feeling blinded by the light of a vehicle behind you simply flip the switch and the light will lessen substantially. It's my third favorite vehicular function after cruise control and the radio.

One carmaker is already on the up-and-up with using technology to solve the problem of drivers being blinded by oncoming headlights, a contribution to a percentage of fatal head-on collisions in the United States.

These new headlights, on most Audis, focus on the darkest spots in front of the vehicle and not necessarily directly ahead as to cause vision struggles for oncoming traffic.

Is this technology legal though?

As of this article, the headlights can not use their full technology due to NHTSA regulations, however, automobile makers are hoping they will be fully approved in the next year and a half. This could certainly help with drivers in Illinois.

If they could figure out a solution for this scenario...
