Illinois Program Offers Monthly Phone and Internet Discounts
Paying for phone or broadband internet service can be a significant expense for any household, especially for those already struggling to make ends meet.
Help Could Be Available for Illinois Residents
Illinois residents who meet certain income or program requirements may be eligible for monthly assistance through the federal Lifeline program.
The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC), along with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners, and the National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates, is highlighting the program during Digital Connectivity and Lifeline Awareness Week, which runs through September 19.
Who Can Qualify for the Discount?
Lifeline provides a $9.25 monthly discount for eligible customers receiving qualifying phone or broadband services. Households may qualify based on income if their household earnings are at or below 135 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
