During this holiday weekend, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources would like to remind you about boating safety.

This year, there are some unique aspects of the 4th of July holiday. First of all, it falls on a Saturday. Which is very exciting for everyone wanting to have fun. Many people won't have to work on the date or the day after. Maybe, even a three day weekend for some.

With that good news, comes some bad. Unfortunately, we are still under COVID-19 restrictions. Most of the annual events have been canceled. People will be making their own fun.

We are lucky in the Rockford area to have a resource like the Rock River. It comes in handy when we want to create our own festivities to celebrate.

The weather forecast looks great, so there's a good chance the water will be jam-packed with boats. Since everyone will be in party mode, some unnecessary risks might be taken. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources would like to remind you to enjoy yourself but please practice boaters safety.

According to the IDNR Facebook page...

Have fun, enjoy your holiday, and be safe.
