How Illinoisans Can Apply to Get $50 off Their Internet Bill

This pandemic forced millions of Americans to work from home, and not every employer has offered compensation to employees for using their home's internet service.

So many students need internet access to go to school right now.  My point here is this; these days internet access is not a luxury, it is a necessity, and for so many people it is a necessity they are struggling to pay for.

This new FCC program will provide eligible households up to $50 off their monthly bill for broadband service. So, who exactly qualifies for this benefit?

Emergency Broadband Benefit Qualifications

Here are the qualifications listed on the FCC's website, and you only need to meet ONE for your household to be eligible:

• Household income that is at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or participates in certain assistance programs, such as SNAP, Medicaid, or Lifeline;
• You receive benefits under the free and reduced-price school lunch program or the school breakfast program.
• You have received a Federal Pell Grant during the current award year;
• If you've experienced a substantial loss of income due to job loss or furlough since February 29, 2020, and the household had a total income in 2020 at or below $99,000 for single filers and $198,000 for joint filers.
• Meets the eligibility criteria for a participating provider's existing low-income or COVID-19 program.

$3.2 billion has been allocated for the Emergency Broadband Benefit as part of the pandemic relief package that was issued back in December, but there's no doubt these funds will go quickly! You better start the application process right now at fcc.gov.
