It's rarely a great feeling to share news of a local business closing for business. The only time it may bring joy is if the owners are closing the place to make way for an updated version or something completely new. This is not one of those circumstances.

Not only did a restaurant close its doors but it also effect another business in town that does not plan on calling it quits.

In 2017, a food challenge in Rockford, Illinois began to receive a lot of attention from all over the U.S. In fact, that same year a team of 2 demolished a 32-inch pizza in 15 minutes. I got a chance to chat with her about food challenges like this, which is something you can't simply train yourself to do.

Molly Schuyler is a professional foodie who can put away some unbelievable large amounts of food like it's nothing. She's set records for food challenges all over the country, been featured on tv, and has been to Rockford for similar challenges more than once, including her visit to Mamma Mia's on N. Alpine Road.

The menu at Mamma Mia's, at 1139 N Alpine Road, included pizzas, calzones, pasta, wings, and more. Despite their phone number still working and their website still open, the business has permanently closed.

Mamma Mia's closure has another Rockford business in limbo.

Inside Mamma Mia's was a popular juice business, Elixir Juice Company.

Elixir's base is Fresh, Organic, Local. Our fresh cold-pressed juice is for EVERYONE! No matter what age, or where you are in life. Your happiness is a reflection of your health.

You can still buy from Elixir Juice Company through their website and throughout the area at events like Rockford City Market.
