Gail Bantes of Wisconsin is a former bus driver turned crossing guard who proved her love for children in a way only a hero would. Here's what happened.

Gail had entered a school zone crosswalk to safely usher children from one side of the street to the other when an SUV quickly approached. Gail sprang into action and pushed to girls out of the path of the vehicle, according to WIFR. Sadly, Gail was hit by the SUV. The driver of the SUV told Peshtigo, WI (north of Green Bay) police she didn't see the crosswalk because "the glare from the sun prevented her from seeing people in the crosswalk."

When speaking about Gail Bantes' heroism, Peshtigo Police Chief Rick Badgley said this,

I give her a lot of credit, a lot of strength. She’s very devoted to what she does. She always has been, and she always will be.

He also reminds drivers to pay extra attention when approaching and going through intersections.

You’re always going to have blind intersections. Slow down and watch at intersections because if you can’t see them, they can’t see you.

As a parent two children, I'm also asking that you pay extra attention in school zones and any time you see school buses stopped.
