Most people might be scared when encountering this giant wasp if they didn't know what it exactly is. Can you blame them? Look at the size of that thing. You can't tell from this picture but it's about the size of an average adult human thumb.

No need to freak out, per se, because you're probably not what this wasp wants.

The Cicada Killer Wasp has a purpose, and it's to kill cicadas. Makes sense, right? Although it may look intimidating, in most cases you don't need to worry about getting stung. All these little guys (or gals) care about is procreating and killing cicadas. According to cicadamania.com, you might get stung by one if one of the following situations were to take place.

If you step on one, squeeze one in your hand, or otherwise harass the insect.

Go near these wasps if you are allergic to stinging insects.
