Thanks to Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful, you can now get free pine mulch in February. Here's how and where to get yours.

The thing about mulch is it will keep. So you can pick it up now, and be ready for Spring. Thanks to everyone who donate and recycled their Christmas trees, there is plenty of mulch to go around the area.

Winnebago County residents will be allowed to get free pine mulch this month, at the Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful sites in Belvidere, Cherry Valley and Loves Park, Machesney Park, Roscoe, Rockton, Rockford and Pecatonica.

According to WREX TV -13, "KNIB Executive Director Lori Gummow says the pine chips are great for walkways, fence borders and acid loving plants. The operation is self-serve as residence should bring their own containers and shovels".
