Ever since my family moved to Pecatonica four years ago, I’ve realized there are still so many cool hidden gems around northern Illinois that I haven’t experienced yet, especially in the Freeport area.

My family goes to Freeport often to run errands, go bowling, watch a movie, and grab a bite to eat, but I'm quickly learning that we have been missing out on a lot of summer fun the past few years.

My kids have gone to Krape Park in Freeport a few times with their grandparents, and I've heard all about the carousel they have there, but I never knew there were paddle boats, kayaks, mini golf and a waterfall there too!

I also just discovered that Freeport hosts a free weekly concert series throughout the summer, and it sounds like a wonderful way to unwind on a Sunday night.

Beginning June 14 through July 26, the Freeport Concert Band's "Music Under the Stars" will take place at the Koenig Amphitheater in Krape Park starting at 7 p.m., .and admission is absolutely free!

"Music Under the Stars" is a community gathering where people chat with neighbors and simply enjoy live music outside on a warm summer evening. Honestly, that’s my favorite kind of summer event.

I think my family will be planning a full day of Krape Park fun some Sunday this summer starting with paddle boats and ending with enjoying "Music Under the Stars". Does this sound good to you too?
