A legendary southern rock band that sold more than 20 million albums has announced they will play a free show this Summer in Illinois.

The 2026 Illinois State Fair is adding a major dose of classic southern rock to its entertainment lineup as legendary band 38 Special prepares to take the Grandstand stage for a free concert on Monday, August 17.

State officials announced the performance as part of ongoing efforts to make the fair more affordable and accessible for Illinois families.
Illinois Fairgoers Expected to Pack Grandstand
For more than 50 years, 38 Special has remained one of the most recognizable names in southern rock, producing hits such as "Hold On Loosely," "Caught Up in You," and "Rockin' Into the Night."
The band has sold more than 20 million albums and continues touring nationwide, drawing longtime fans alongside younger generations discovering the group through classic rock radio.

The concert will begin after the gates open at 7 p.m. at the Illinois State Fair Grandstand. While admission to the show is free, attendees will still be required to pass through security screening before entering the venue.
