Last week, we told you that Italian-style meats were being linked to a Salmonella outbreak happening in Illinois, along with 16 other states. At the time, no brand name had been identified as being the source. Now, they have.

According to a release by the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Fratelli Beretta brand prepackaged uncured antipasto trays are are the foods you should be taking a close look at:

On August 27, 2021, Fratelli Beretta issued a recall of one of their uncured antipasto products; however, CDC continues to advise people to not eat any Fratelli Beretta brand Uncured Antipasto trays with “best by” dates on or before February 11, 2022.

Just How Big Is This Recall?

Fratelli Beretta USA Inc, a Mount Olive, New Jersey company, announced the 862,000 pounds of uncured antipasto products recall late Friday for 24-ounce trays of ready-to-eat meat shipped to retailers nationwide, including right here in Illinois. Costco posted a recall for the trays on its website Friday.

Here's what Fratelli Beretta USA and the CDC say you should be checking your fridge or pantry for:

Fratelli Beretta brand prepackaged Uncured Antipasto trays 

  • Sold in a variety of grocery stores and other food markets nationwide
  • Sold in vacuum-sealed plastic packages
  • Can include uncured salami, prosciutto, coppa, or soppressata
  • With “best by” dates on or before February 11, 2022
  • This does not include Italian-style meats sliced at a deli

The CDC has a longer list of meats that people involved in both outbreaks reported eating, and that list also included pepperoni.

USA Today:

The USDA classified the announcement as a "Class I" recall and said this is "a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death."
