New Wine Bar Coming to Iconic Corner in Downtown Rockford
Have you driven by the boarded-up building on the corner of Main and Mulberry in Downtown Rockford lately and thought, "I wonder what this will become next?" Well, the answer has been revealed!
Do You Remember Palace Shoe Repair?
When Palace Shoe Repair closed in 2021 after 95 years of business, it was a sad day for Rockford.
Palace Shoe Repair was one of the longest running, family-owned businesses in the Rockford area. It remained a vital part of this community until it closed, and many residents still miss it nearly 4 years later.
You know what's even sadder than a locally-owned business closing, though? Seeing the building it called home for nearly 100 years sitting ignored and unloved. Thankfully, that won't be the case much longer.
New Wine Bar Coming to Rockford
Rumors have been swirling for months now that a new wine bar would be opening in Downtown Rockford, and now the first signs proving the rumors true are starting to emerge:
An article from mystateline.com says:
The city’s Liquor and Tobacco Advisory Board is considering a proposal for the Palace Wine Bar, to be located at 202 North Main Street.
Applicants Mark Podemski and Lucretia Ristin are requesting liquor licenses for the new establishment, which would offer patrons a curated selection of wines and beers for on-site consumption or take-home options.
I haven't been able to find official confirmation that a liquor license has been approved for Palace Wine Bar yet, but this new art on the building looks like a pretty good sign:
I'm sure I'm the only one who thinks Downtown Rockford visitors would love a cozy wine bar to enjoy and unwind at, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that plans stay on track for it to open in the Spring of 2026!
