Three day care workers in Des Plaines have been charged with giving gummy bears laced with melatonin to the kids in their care.

What on earth?

This has me shaking my head.

ABC7 reports that three day care workers at the Des Plaines Kiddie Junction Daycare Center at 1619 E. Oakton Street, were arrested and charged with feeding gummy bears to two years in their care to "get them to calm down before nap time."

What's worse is that these three did this without parental consent.

Yes, you read that right the parents of these toddlers had no idea the teachers had done this to their kids.

32-year-old Kristen Lauletta of Niles, 19-year-old Jessica Heyse of Des Plaines and 25-year-old Ashley Helfenbein of Chicago admitted to police that they "[distributed] melatonin to the children and did not think it was inappropriate as they were an over-the-counter sleep aid."

OMG! Really? They had no idea this was wrong??

They all should have known better, especially the 32 year old teacher. Good grief.

All three women "have each been charged with two counts of endangering the life or health of a child and two counts of battery. The teachers are scheduled to appear in court on April 4."

I understand the thinking, I'm not saying I agree or think it's right, because it's not. That they wanted the kids to relax and be calm but giving them natural sleep aids is not the answer.

If you want to do that, give it to your own kids or yourself, (again I'm not defending this as right) But DO NOT do this with other people's children. They are not yours.

If you can't handle kids maybe you shouldn't be in this profession of teaching and caring for little ones. Am I right?
