Illinois is filled with unique places to get away for a weekend. If 'glamping' is your kind of weekend, this silo in the middle of a farm is perfect for you.

In the last few years, my wife and I, have fallen in love using apps like Airbnb and VRBO to book our overnights. We've stayed in some pretty spectacular spaces. Often, you'll find something better than any hotel, and most likely cheaper too.

Finding a fun place to stay using one of these apps has made trip planning really fun. While looking for some cool places to share with you here in Illinois, I found a site that caters to 'Glampers.' If you don't know that word, chances are you aren't one... yet. That may soon change.

A glamper is...

A person who loves luxurious camping aka 'glamping'.

The website I found is GlampingHub.com and the first spot I saw is in the middle of a (still in business) farm in Alvin, Illinois. While some glampers prefer the seclusion a forest provides, others want wide-open spaces. If the latter is you, this unique getaway sits in the middle of corn, soybean and wheat farm. Alvin is a little over three hours from Rockford, about fifteen minutes north of Danville, Illinois.

In the 1950's this now-converted silo was used as a storage container for grain. Now, the silo is a little one loft-bedroom, one bathroom getaway like no other. The bedroom has a queen-size bed in the sleeping loft. The bathroom has a large clawfoot tub. And the roof of this place looks like a great spot to catch a sunset.

There are restaurants in the surrounding area, but this place comes with a feature I think you'll enjoy a whole lot more. The property owners will provide you with home-cooked meals, delivered right to your front door, at an extra cost.
