A tragic collision occurred late Sunday night at an intersection on Rockford's southeast side that took the life of one individual.

According to the press release, the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office responded to a tragic accident at approximately 11:55 p.m. on Sunday (8/25) at Holland Street and Lincoln Avenue.

Simon was driving a vehicle that collided with another at the busy Rockford intersection. First responders from the Rockford Police Department and Rockford Fire Department arrived swiftly on the scene.

Despite their immediate intervention and subsequent transport of Simon to a local hospital, the severity of his injuries proved fatal. Simon was pronounced dead at 12:58 a.m. Monday (8/26).

An autopsy has been scheduled for August 27, 2024, to determine the exact cause of death.

Both the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office and the Rockford Police Department are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, according to the press release.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the accident to come forward as the investigation continues.
