Chicago’s Navy Pier is Reopening Next Month with Fireworks Every Weekend in May
Another sign of normalcy in Illinois is Navy Pier in Chicago announcing a reopening date. Like everything that has since reopened or reemerged during this pandemic, there are some changes. The biggest might be the AMC Navy Pier IMAX permanently closing.
Here is what will be open at the time of Navy Pier's reopening date later this month.
- Navy Pier Parking Garages
- Polk Bros Park
- Peoples Energy Welcome Pavilion
- North and South Docks
- Pier Park
- East End Plaza
- Tour Boats and Cruises
- Sable Hotel
- Select Restaurants (at limited capacity)
Some of the changes you can expect to encounter are obvious like face masks and social distancing. Facemasks must be worn at all times at Navy Pier and, for social distancing, "Social Distancing Ambassadors" will be throughout the area to remind guests to practice social distancing. But don't bring an army with you because groups of 10 or more are not allowed, as stated at navypier.org.
Capacity at Navy Pier’s public programs, events and spaces at a given time will be limited to a number that is proportional and conducive to physical distancing for that space. Gathering of large groups of 10 or more are strictly prohibited. Guests in violation of this practice will be subject to removal from the premises.
In other exciting news, WREX reports Navy Pier will have a fireworks display every Saturday night in May, including Memorial Day weekend for guests to enjoy. The official reopening date, according to Navy Pier's Facebook, is April 30th. Again, another positive sign of life getting somewhat back to normal.
