Give credit where credit is due, Mayor Lightfoot is bringing people together.

It really is amazing how so many people dislike her. Liberals, conservatives, young, old, men, women, and I'm assuming some children, all dislike her. It's really hard these days to be universally disliked by everyone. It's like her and Harvey Weinstein right now and that's about it.

She was at it again this afternoon in response to the Bears announcing that they were looking into buying the Arlington Racetrack to, presumably, build a brand new stadium.

This would be awesome and pretty much everyone agrees with it. Soldier Field is iconic and historic but it's a horrible place for an NFL team to call home. It's impossible to get to, impossible to leave and has the smallest capacity of any stadium in the NFL.

A move to Arlington Heights would allow them to build a state-of-the-art facility with either a dome or retractable dome and could eventually host Super Bowls, NCAA Championship games, and NCAA Final Fours. It could be a world-class facility like what the Cowboys have in Jerry-world.

Here's what it could look like in the space currently occupied by the Arlington Racetrack.

Would it stink to lose the racetrack? Yes, but the trade-off would be absolutely worth it.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has other opinions. From her Twitter feed:

Our city is home to some of the world's finest sports teams who have played a vital role in the city's re-opening. As part of the city's recovery, many organizations are doubling down on their commitment to Chicage, and we expect the Chicago Bears to follow suit. The Bears are locked into a lease at Soldier Field until 2033. In addition, this announcement from the Bears comes in the midst of negotiations for improvements at Soldier Field. This is clearly a negotiating tactic that the Bears have used before.

Now if she had left it at that, it would have been fine. Are the Bears negotiating for improvements? I'm not sure. What I am sure of is that the Bears would probably love to control their own stadium and field and not have high school playoffs on them 2 days before the Lions come to town. But I'm just speculating.

Mayor Lightfoot wasn't done. She had to throw in a little barb at the end, which is exactly what makes her so unlikeable. most Bears fans, we want the organization to focus on putting a winning team on the field, beating the Packers finally and being relevant past October. Everything else is noise.

Mayor. Read the room. You could have gotten away with something like this pre-Justin Fields when the whole city hated the Bears and the ownership. Then draft night happened and someone took over Ryan Pace's body and he made shrewd, competent decisions and now the city is all in on the Bears and Fields. They kind of can't do any wrong right now.

Give them time and I'm sure they will but now, just figure out how to not have a record number of murders in your city this summer and let the Bears do what they want.
