There have been a lot of events cancelled lately as fears about the Coronavirus continue to spread. The NCAA Ivy League tournament was cancelled, Italy has cancelled events for the entire month of March, professional sports leagues are contemplating playing games without fans in the stands, and even musicians are cancelling shows because of it. Illinois has already felt the effects of it as McCormick Place has had a few conventions cancel as well.

Now a tradition on St. Patrick's Day has fallen the latest victim. The annual St. Patrick's Day Parade and dyeing of the Chicago River have been cancelled.

Officials have been urging people to avoid mass gatherings and after Ireland cancelled their festivities, Chicago followed suit and ended theirs this morning.

What does that mean for Rockford's event this weekend? As of right now, business as usual. Governor Pritzker is letting the local officials make the call on their celebrations.

The Rockford St. Patrick's Day Parade will begin at 3 and the dyeing of the Rock River to begin around 5.

Should more mass gatherings consider suspending them until the concerns over the Coronavirus pass or should people make the decision as to whether to attend or not? Let us know in the comments!
