Some bad news for Rockford area residents who love the lit-up Christmas train: the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train won't be making a stop in town this year.

The good news? It's still coming close enough to make a quick family road trip and it could be totally worth it.

A 27-Year Holiday Tradition on Rails

Now in its 27th year, the 2025 Holiday Train runs from November 19 through December 21 playing free concerts, bringing tons of flashing lights and that unmistakable small town Chirstmas charm that we love in America and Canada.

Where to See the Holiday Train in Illinois

The Illinois stops for the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train include:

Franklin Park on November 23, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Located at the south side of Ruby Street Railway Crossing, north of Franklin Avenue. Smash Mouth and JJ Wilde scheduled to perform.

Gurnee on December 9 from 5:15 to 5:40 p.m.

Located at 4460 Old Grand Avenue, American Authors and Pynk Beard are slated to take the stage.

In case you haven't heard of the Holiday Train until now, it's way more than just a moving light show; it raises money and food for local food banks at every stop. Since 1999, the train has collected over 5 million pounds of food and raised over $26 million for communities across the U.S.

Why Rockford Isn’t on the 2025 Schedule

Just last year, the train made a stop in Byron, but it looks like an attempt to expand across more of its network this season is the reason for the change. Regardless, the spirit remains the same, with lights, music, and a reminder that the holidays are about giving.
